What is roaming?
This described on page 141 in version 8 of the Dragon user guide – if you’ve mislaid your user guide, it’s available at ftp://ftp.scansoft.com/files/support/manuals/dns8_usergd.pdf for version 8. This feature isn’t described in the user guide for version 9 but is in the online help instead.
Basically, your user files are copied to your network server and all local computers that you have Dragon installed on will synchronise it’s user file with the master user file on the network server. This means that any improvements to the user file on computer 1 (e.g. new custom words and phrases, new commands, additional training, corrections etc) will automatically be available to you when you use Dragon on computer 2 provided it’s connected to the network. Peter Maddern at Speech Empowered Computing at http://www.speechempoweredcomputing.co.uk is using Skype to allow potential customers to call free of charge to discuss the benefits of getting into speech recognition. Also, exisiting customers may call using Skype to ask technical support questions. If a user has a webcam and microphone, they can participate in a high quality videoconference with Speech Empowered Computing. If no webcam, voice conversation is possible.
I have used several Instant Messengers which have videoconferencing capability and find Skype to be amongst the best in terms of performance.
In these days of overcrowded roads and high fuel costs, videoconferencing is the next best thing to being face to face!
If you don’t have Skype, you can download it free from here
Click on the Skype “call me” button on the website if you would like to connect via Skype to ask for advice on getting into speech recognition with Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

PC Magazine has published a review of the latest release (version 9) of Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional. See  http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1996759,00.asp and this is a link to the PC Magazine video review http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1997294,00.asp
I personally wouldn’t endorse the reviewer’s recommendation to opt for the “standard” edition as this version has limited functionality. For example, it doesn’t have dictation playback which is a real necessity for proof reading purposes. Also, it doesn’t have smart formatting. A comaprison of all three versions can be found at http://nuance.co.uk/naturallyspeaking/matrix/Â
My recommendation would be to consider the “Preferred” version as a minimum.
